Review of East Wind, 2nd Edition
East Wind is a suspense-filled novel about two individuals and the United States Government trying to stop a terroristic threat. The Hezbollah group has set off a bomb and has threatened to set off more if the United States doesn’t meet their demands. They have already killed many people and could potentially kill many more. Two agents, Lara and Uri, are tasked with tracking down the next bomb target by deciphering special coding online. Do they figure it out and make it on time? While racing against time, romance starts to form. Between trying to stop a bomb threat and a relationship starting to form, this action-packed novel keeps you guessing on what will happen next.
One thing I loved about this book is all of the detailed information that is provided. You could tell that Jack Winnick did a great deal of research in order to write this book. The background knowledge on the different countries and their interactions was educational. It showed the relationships between the United States and other middle east countries. It also demonstrated how the United States Government might act in times of crisis and all the agencies that need to be involved. I also liked how in the midst of the government dilemma, there was romance. You weren’t sure if the main characters would form a relationship or if they would end up keeping it a professional relationship.
There was nothing that I disliked about this novel. It did give a lot of different accounts, but it was easy to follow, and the storyline was fluid. I will admit that some information and words were above my knowledge level, but that didn’t affect my ability to understand. In fact, it was fun to find out all of this new information! It was both educational and a romance novel wrapped into one.
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This novel was very detailed and full of information. It seems as if a lot of background research had to be done in order for it to be written. Each page kept you guessing and made you excited to continue to read it. We normally aren’t given a step-by-step account on how terroristic threats might be played out. However, this novel gives you great detail on how our government might act in order to stop it.
In conclusion, I would recommend this book to any individual that likes thrilling novels that also include government information. You will not only be reading about terroristic threats and how the government would act, but you will also be following along with a budding relationship. Even though it is a fiction novel, the detail and story line make it seem real.
