Review of Devil Among Us
Devil Among Us by Jack Winnick is action-packed and suspenseful. This is the second book in the Uri and Lara series. Lara and Uri are teamed up by their respective governments yet again as they are assigned a new mission. Lara is an agent of the FBI, and Uri is an Israeli agent. A bombing occurs, and they are tasked with finding those behind it.
An Orthodox church was bombed, and Jews were killed. They are tasked with finding out why Jews would kill themselves and many more Jews. Lara finds out that some terrorists have been masquerading as Jews. Who are the terrorists? What do they want? All these are explained in this book, filled with action, suspense, and drama. Lara and Uri develop feelings for each other. To avoid any interference with the mission, they have to decide whether to end their romance or not. What will it be? To find out, grab a copy.
I generally do not like reading a book that's part of a series, but this book stood out to me. From the moment I began reading, I was engrossed and could not stop. I found the plot intriguing, and the storyline flowed well. Even though this book is the second in the series, it can be read as a standalone book. I like how the author reintroduced the characters. He helped ensure that readers who hadn't read the previous book were not lost and understood the story too. Uri's character was my favorite. He was disciplined, well-mannered, and gentle. He treated everyone with kindness and respect. One could see why Lara was attracted to him despite the efforts of other FBI agents.
I loved how detailed the action scenes were. The author brilliantly mixed historical events with fiction. This highlights how highly skilled a writer he is. I didn't enjoy reading the book from different perspectives. I felt it was a lot, and I struggled to keep up with the timeline. I didn't enjoy the back-and-forth between Uri and Lara's relationship. For these reasons, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
Terrorism has plagued humanity for a long time. It is still a major issue in society today. I like how the author focuses on such a serious issue. I also got to see the perspective of those who protect us from terrorists. They are heroes and should be celebrated. I found no errors in the book, indicating it was exceptionally well edited. I recommend this book to lovers of romance, action, suspense, and thrillers.
