Is it possible that I have finished this book in one sit? Yes. Did I obtain great pleasure in turning each of its pages? Definitely. Was I full of prejudice towards the plot before actually reading it? Absolutely. The Girl who knew Da Vinci by Belle Ami is a story that can be summarized in one single word: art. That is the main concept in which the whole novel revolves around. There is art in the painting the characters are seeking, in their relationship, in the cities they travel to. This is a story in which girl meets boy several times (you´ll know what I mean once you´ve finished reading it) full of mystery and adventure. The characters embark on a search for a long-lost painting across different cities, that leads them to live incredible situations and test their own limits when it comes to reality, History and love.

What I like the most about the book goes by the name of Alex Caine. The author excelled in turning thousands of words into a man that would be impossible to resist. His manners, the way he talks, his adventurous spirit of humble nature, and his “Joie de vivre” got me the second I laid eyes on his name.
Leaving my latest fictional crush aside, I also enjoyed how vividly and detailed everything was described. From Florence to Da Vinci´s paintings, everything was impeccable. I devoured every word and submerged myself in the beauty of architecture and the tastiness of Italian cuisine.

Despite how much I loved this book, there is a little thing that I completely disliked. Let me set this clear: I do think the author is gifted with words. The romance bit is surreal, exquisite. But the erotic content is plain, dull and does nothing for the reader. Perhaps, I have read too many fanfictions. Or perhaps, this sort of content should be better detailed and sound more realistic.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it takes you on a memorable journey that lifts you from your everyday life. It made me feel as if I were there, walking alongside the characters. What I disliked about the story can easily be overseen if you take into account how beautifully written it is. Besides, the book was exceptionally well edited as I could not find any errors or typos.

I would recommend this book to hopeless romantics with an eye for art and architecture that enjoy getting lost in foreign cities. Those who are fond of mysteries would also enjoy it.
However, if you like historical accuracy and dislike erotic scenes and curse words you should read something else.
