Author Dorothy May Mercer has done it again, with another great book in the McBride series. This book, E M P Honeymoon, is a complete novel that does not need to be read as part of the series, to appreciate. The story makes sense as a stand alone book. The story follows a newly married couple on honeymoon in Honduras, who stumble upon a terrorist plot.

Dear Leader, (DL), of the People's Army in Korea, desires to eradicate North America. He plans to send a nuclear bomb from Honduras to achieve this. He has chosen his team of scientists based on their appearances - they must not look Asian. Their appearances are altered with plastic surgery and makeovers, and they must learn to act like Americans, including eating hamburgers, hotdogs and chips. They dispose of their military demeanour and wear jeans and baseball caps. They are sent to Honduras to act the part as tourists, while they assemble the bomb launcher. The honeymooners, Tom, a cop from Carson City, and Kelly, a computer whizz, come across the terrorists’ control room, accidentally, and realise what it is. They send out a call for help to the USA. The airforce, President’s office, and C.I.A all work together with Senator Michael McBride’s team of beautiful security women to stop the terrorist attack.

I really enjoyed E M P Honeymoon for a number of reasons. Firstly, the scientific and computer technology is written in an easy to understand language, and is a fascinating scenario. Secondly, it was interesting to find out what happens to Dear Leader’s loyal subjects once their jobs are completed. Their lifestyles and futures are very different from how we would expect them to be. The villains don’t necessarily have a choice with their actions. Thirdly, there is a light romantic thread throughout the book.

There was nothing I did not enjoy in this book except for a vulgar expression that I felt Dorothy May Mercer could have replaced with a less offensive term. The rest of the book had no profanity and was edited perfectly. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. Had there been no profanity, I would have rated it higher.

This book would appeal to science fiction and political intrigue devotees. Readers such as myself, who do not fall into these groups, would still enjoy the geographical, cultural, humour and romance elements. The author apologies for the abrupt ending, albeit a satisfying ending, and provides an extra section at the end of the book to give a quick update on various characters. I thought this was very considerate.
