East Wind by Jack Winnick is an action thriller that follows Lara Edmond and Uri Levin. This is the first in the Lara and Uri series, where they first meet each other trying to save the United States and Israel from the extremist group, Hezbollah. Lara is an amazing computer whiz that is in charge of electronic terrorism for the FBI. When a nuclear bomb goes off in San Francisco killing thousands of citizens, Uri Levin is sent to help Lara track down the extremists living in the United States. Uri is a part of the secretive and selective Metsada, a part of the Israeli Mossad, and one of the best in his country. Lara and Uri have to work together to try to stop the next nuclear bomb from going off in five days, unfortunately, they have no idea who is doing it or where the next bomb is going to go off.

The characters in East Wind help to drive the plot of this story. Winnick does a great job of switching the perspective of the characters, including the perspectives of the bad guys. This helps the reader to fully understand the plot of the novel because at times it can be hard to understand why or what is actually happening. Several plot twists kept the reader engaged and wondering if it was possible to complete the task, both for the good and bad guys.

The beginning of East Wind was very slow. There were a lot of descriptions and background information, making it difficult to fully understand the story. I wish the information and background would have been sprinkled throughout the story instead because I think it would have made the storyline flow a little easier. There was a little hint of romance throughout the story that I think the author could have left out and that the book would have been stronger without it.

East Wind was extremely well-edited, which made it a pleasant reading experience. I would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars. Even though the beginning was very slow, the plot line and the characters helped make this an amazing action story. It definitely made me want to continue the series with the next book, The Devil Among Us.

I would recommend East Wind to anyone that enjoys thrillers, especially terroristic threat thrillers or thrillers that follow certain government agencies, such as the FBI.
