Jack Winnick's East Wind is a fictional political thriller and the first book in the gripping Lara and Uri series. East Wind follows Lara, the FBI's gifted cyber-intelligence agent, and Uri, a seasoned veteran of the ultra-secret wing of the Israeli Mossad, as they sniff out a radical Islamic cell on American Soil. Winnick begins the book by detailing the background of Lara, Uri, and the members of the Hezbollah terror cell in the years and months leading up to the active investigation. Lara and Uri use age-old intelligence tactics in congruence with trailblazing surveillance technology to track down communication between Hezbollah agents in the U.S. and Islamic leaders in Pakistan. Lara and Uri use every skill in their arsenal to stop the terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.

Winnick switches perspectives between characters throughout the book, allowing the reader to create a well-rounded outlook on the situation. Winnick's method of character development is engaging for the reader. I was thoroughly engrossed in the plot throughout the book. Much to my delight, East Wind does not have a predictable plot. Even in the last two pages, I was surprised by some details and left questioning how the situation would develop in Winnick’s Devil Among Us, the next book in the Lara and Uri series. This perspective change is my favorite part of the novel.

There is nothing to dislike about this novel, Jack Winnick is an excellent author, and the book is well-edited. I only found one borderline punctuation mistake, which did not impact my enjoyment. Winnick organizes the novel into chapters relating to character perspectives. Any flashback to previous experiences in the characters' lives was denoted by listing the year and month of the storyline in the chapter heading. This organization allows readers to follow the narrative without confusion. I have no criticisms of the material. I am excited to start the next Lara and Uri story.

I rate East Wind, 2nd Edition 4 out of 4 stars. The book is well-edited. I only found one punctuation mistake, which did not impact my rating. Jack Winnick includes crucial historical detail in this novel. The background on Islam, the history of Israel, and intelligence tactics used by the U.S. Government help readers follow the plot. I appreciate the time and effort it must have taken to write this novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

This thriller is well-suited for those interested in political world events and spy novels. There is very little profanity and only light sexual content, which allows the reader to focus on the plot without being distracted. There is a specific bias toward appreciating western culture, politics, and religion. Mention of Islamic culture focuses on radical beliefs and the horrific events resulting from radical Islamic terrorist groups. However, I truly believe that adult readers of all backgrounds can appreciate and enjoy this story.

I admire that Lara received the same attention as her male counterpart as a protagonist. I'm curious whether other supporting female characters get the same treatment. I appreciate the well-written review.
