Review of The Merkin Chronicles
The Merkin Chronicles written by Pygmael Eon follows a story of an almost ‘superhuman’ young woman named ‘Francis’. She has got a special genetic strain through her parents-especially from her mother- ‘Elizabeth’. Francis’s parents are part of a big medieval secret society which was founded near Paris in around the 14th century, and still in action with more authority.
‘Francis’ is a special weapon of the guild, she has been raised carefully by Guild’s special agents. She starts her school life in Melbourne where she meets two most loyal friends of her life. After school, she was sent to Japan to learn ‘Chi’ and other martial arts. With the training from 'Sensi Kano' she is able to acquire almost every human skill just by carefully watching. At one stage ‘Francis’ discovers ‘performance-enhancing sex’ which allows her to perform any activity beyond limits. Finally, she goes to Mexico for her combat training, After completing her special combat training and first raid successfully, Guild sends her back to Melbourne to take over the underground drug trafficking business. With the most exclusive human-machine they’ve built over the years, Guild wants to throw out all established drug lords and natural cocaine, and introduce a new synthetic cocaine to the market, Which will bring them an enormous amount of profits.
Pygmael Eon, the author of ‘The Merkin Chronicles’ as a former narcotics agent, he tried to use his real life experiences to write this book, and as I learned it took him almost 8 years. He tried to depict how real underground drug trafficking works. The book is divided into 27 chapters and the pace of the story is well balanced through them. I love the fact how the author tries to introduce various paintings and art pieces here and there in the story. The story is kinda straight forward, its an easy reading and didn't cause me any headaches. The characters are very much likable and you can easily dive into their world. This book is full of conversations and dialogues, and they are entertaining. The book is professionally edited, i detect no grammatical mistakes and typos.
The protagonist of “Merkin Chronicles” goes several places across the globe, But there is no narration of these beautiful places. The author didn't even try and as a result the character seemed a little flat. Most part of the book sounded very familiar, if you are into tv and movies, you will think that you’ve watched the story a hundred times on screens.Big portion of The book is similar to a lot of hollywood blockbusters.
I was entertained but cannot say that the book satisfies my reading appetites , the book had possibilities to be better. Nonetheless, I give it three out of four because throughout the whole book you can sense the effort of the author.
This book depicts many forms of sex in details, so definitely its an adult book. If you love action and adventure the ‘ The Merkin Chronicles’ is for you. I hope the book will entertain you.
