Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole had a character named Reverend. Reverend had lived in the cages for so long. He had checked himself into the facility voluntarily. Years ago something had happened. Something so horrible that he felt he did not deserve anything good. He deserved to be punished, he deserved to die. At least that's how he felt. He made himself worthy with a few lash strokes here and there. The splash of blood and the immeasurable pain made him feel alive. Almost like a sweet relief.

On this particular day he woke up and went through his normal "cleansing" process. You have to read the book to know what I mean. The only thing that was unusual about this morning was that for the first time in five years he had a visitor. Someone who he had dreamt of a thousand times over. Her voice gave him a sense of humaneness. She needed him for something urgent and personal. It was personal to both of them.

One of the things that made the book very interesting was the author's narration style. The fact that the author incorporated a lot of dialogue in the book helped kill the monotony. The talking back and forth also helped build the tension between the characters and the scene. There was very immaculate vivid description in the book. As I was reading I felt like I was in a theater watching the scenes from a screen. The book was also written in good readable language.

There was nothing particularly that I disliked about the book. I found it to be very intriguing and very creative. Some scenes were very graphic which can be a problem for other readers, but I found it to be very thrilling. Taking away the bloody scenes would be removing essence from the book. I did not spot any grammatical issues in the book which led me to believe that it must have been well edited and well written.

I rate this book as 3 out of 4 because it's an intriguing read. Although the characters were fictional they almost felt real. Except for the supernatural ones. I feel like the plot of the book was very well-developed, and the characters were fit for the storyline. It was not a boring read at all. I am not a fun of science fiction, but I was very intrigued to read this one. It has to some point changed my notion about science fiction tales. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading science fiction material and crime thrillers.
