Days of the Giants written by RJ Petrella, is about an intern in medicine - Slate Barnes. The story describes his childhood, the reason why he chose to become a doctor, his family, his father, and his demise, how his mother has moved on with her life, and his step-father, who is an important official in a rivalry hospital to the hospital Slate is working in. Slate's life goes perfect, until he has to select a hospital for his internship, in which he and his girlfriend part ways, and he also finds he is suffering from a fatal disease. The story is also about a merger that could change the fates of two rival hospitals – the one in which Slate joins, and the one in which his step-father works. And this merger is not a beneficiary to all, except for a few who do this for their benefit.

The book gives us the vibe of being in an actual hospital with how the author describes Slate's shifts and the few cases he worked on. I liked the way the story was narrated sometimes from Slate's point of view and sometimes from the point of view of Slate's father. Thirdly, I like how Slate used to make up some of his feelings and immediately he breaks it down to what he actually feels. This can in fact build the engagement of the reader with the book. I particularly liked the characterization of Slate – the protagonist of the story, who is passionate about his profession, supportive of his friends, and someone who stands by what is right. Not only that, every character in the story has a strong purpose and principle, that they follow in order to achieve their goals. Even if the story is said to take place in the 90s time period, the same plot can be related to the current age.

The book doesn't have any negative aspects to be mentioned. I liked the storytelling, characterization, plot, and everything about this book.

I would give this book a 3 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the book, as it explained the life of a doctor to. The book is professionally edited with minimal errors. The book explained the life of a doctor, both emotionally and physically.

I would suggest this book to readers who would like to read a fictional story that sounds like a true story. Students who wish to become a doctor can also read this book as they can relate to the events of the book.
