Without Redemption is a crime thriller. While holidaying with his family in Costa Rica, Lonnie Bowers is given a supposedly simple assignment. He is to cross the border into Nicaragua to retrieve an important document from a drug cartel member. Things do not go exactly as planned and soon Lonnie finds himself on the wrong side of one of the most dangerous men on Earth. This book is set mostly in the peculiar jungles of Central America where the drug trade has taken a larger-than-life hold over the daily affairs of its inhabitants.

David Griffith portrays his primary character as a man who makes his family as much of a priority to himself as his covert assignment. This is something of a novelty for me but it is one of the aspects to this book I find rather appealing. It becomes even more unusual when you find his wife acts as his moral compass in this story, a perfect example of this would be where Lonnie battles with his conscience when setting a trap for his pursuers. It is not often you come across a hitman with a conscience. The character development is thorough enough for me to like. When I went through Paolo's background story I felt a certain degree of pity for him as I slowly understood how his critical choices in life had gotten him into such a precarious position with the cartel.

Apart from some aspects of the story which I found difficult to relate to because it felt like a tall tale carried too far, there was nothing else in particular that stood out for me which I did not like.

I would recommend this book to action and thriller genre readers. The suspense in the story is palpable as you are immersed in it from the start of the book. If you are looking for a book that has a lot of high octane action scenes in it, this is definitely the book for you.

In conclusion, Without Redemption ticks all the boxes for a suspense filled, action story. The editing of the book is quite professional as I came across only one error as I read the book. There are some aspects of the story which pushed the limits of my imagination such as some of the activities the primary character was able to carry out without the use of two fully mobile arms but then I have decided to mark that down to creative storytelling on the part of David Griffith. Once I moved beyond that, I enjoyed every bit of the book. It is because of these reasons I rate this book a solid 4 out of 4 stars.
