Review of Days of the Giants
Days of the Giants, by R.J. Petrella, is a fictional story that is filled with suspense, mystery, and crimes set in the United States in the late 20th century. The novel is about the story of Slater, who just recently graduated from medical school and started his internship in a public hospital. Slater faces several challenges with his family, relationships, and even illness. After he decided to work at Boston City Hospital for his medical training, that is when he faced other bigger issues that consequently threatened his life and the death of his co-worker and friend. The Boston City hospital where he works is filled with a group of corrupt doctors who don't care about the lives of patients but are only concerned with profits. It was up to Slater, who was determined to be a good doctor, to expose the secret of the hospital. How will Slater expose the lies of the hospital to the public? Will he ever be able to confront the hospital? Grab a copy of this book in order to find out.
There are three things that intrigue me about the novel. First, I appreciate how the book emphasizes the importance of a public hospital's moral value and integrity. By doing so, it demonstrates the corrupt practice found within Boston City Hospital. I also like how emotional the text is. For example, it depicts Slater's anguish following the deaths of his father and friends, as well as his deteriorating relationships with his family and long-term girlfriend. Finally, I like how some of the characters grow throughout the story. For example, Slaters, who was a pitiful and inexperienced hospital trainee, was later seen fighting the fraudulent practices of a government-owned hospital.
The title of the book does not correspond to the content. In the story, I found nothing resembling a giant. When I saw the title, I assumed it was a fantasy novel about large creatures, not realizing it was a story about crimes, politics, and health. Aside from that, I have no complaints about the text.
Overall, the novel is filled with plot twists, suspense, and mystery, as well as interesting subject matter and good character development. I can say it has been well proofread because there are very few grammatical or typographical errors. I'd give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The downsides I mentioned earlier do not detract from my enjoyment of the book.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy fictional stories about medical dramas that are filled with mystery and suspense. However, because of the violence and profanity, I will not recommend it to readers under the age of fourteen.
