Snow Country Lane by Sarah Vail is a crime fiction that focuses on the welfare of children. The main themes are greed, power, and deception. It is part II of a series but it can be read alone.

Tim McAndrews is an ADA in Seattle who is married to Daniela St. Clair, a rich woman. He is suspended from work due to a shooting. The duo decides to take a ski- vacation with two other friends who work with Tim. Before they leave, Tim is made aware of two boys found dead and tortured by the ME. He looks and keeps in mind the evidence found on the two boys. When they are on the vacation, the team witnesses a kidnapping happening in broad daylight and decides to step in as it is their duty. It is after the rescue that the weight of the matter hits home. Many children are disappearing with no trace. All those children are from foster families. The big questions become a) where do they go. b) Why are they being abducted? c) Is there any particular criteria or is it random? and d) Who is behind all this mess?

The read is engrossing. I found it difficult to put the book down because I wanted to know the turn of events. Sarah Vail does a meticulous job of keeping the reader in suspense making it even more captivating. Another fact I loved about the book is that it is short and fast-paced. This made it easy for me to complete it in less than thirty-six hours. It also happens that I love short books and less padding. Something else that increased my love for the book is the details. They say that the devil is always in the details and Sarah Vail paid attention to that. The book is well detailed making it easy for the reader to connect and envision the whole story. I doted on every single aspect of the book thus; I lacked a thing to dislike.

Snow Country Lane gets a rating of 4 out of 4 stars for many reasons. One, the book is a part of the Tim McAndrews series although it does well standing alone. An overview of what previously happened is given. Secondly, the author keeps the mystery looming to the last point holding the reader's attention. Finally, the author uses her power to advocate for children's welfare, which impressed the most. The book is meticulously edited with high professionalism.

I recommend this book to crime and mystery lovers. It is also suitable for young adults.
