Review of Blackwater Crossing
The book Blackwater crossing by David Griffith, follows the story of Lonnie, a rodeo man and his best friend Brian. He is a man who is on the verge of divorce from his wife Clarissa, an insurance agent based in Vancouver .He has spent most of his adult life in the rodeo. The two friends spend most of the time moving from one city to the other, following the rodeo parks where Lonnie rides bucking horses and Brian rides bulls,a dangerous career but one which they love. The two are inseparable and ride on Brian’s plane as they travel to rodeos all over the cities. All is going well at least for Brian who is on top of his game, until he mysteriously disappears, and Lonnie is thrust into the world of drug cartels and drug smuggling.Clarissa a cougar attack survivor must make a tough decision, which will determine the course of her life, all this with the help of a wonderful pastor and his beautiful wife. The story touches on matters of hope, faith, forgiveness and sacrifice.
The positive aspects of the book that I liked, is the friendship between Lonnie and Brian. The kind of friendship that can with stand any adversity. The sacrifice and selflessness displayed between the two friends and also the fact that the book touches on issues that affect day to day life such as faith, hope ,forgiveness and brotherhood.
The negative aspect of the book is the pace the author adopted in the first few chapters. The book kind of started slow in the beginning and it requires one to have vast knowledge of cattle farming especially in Canada during winter time .It also requires one to have knowledge of how the rodeo parks operate and make money.
I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars, because the fiction involved kind of felt flat and boring, especially in the beginning of the book. The fact that the story left out some minor details that would have helped a reader who is new to the region being described and a detailed description of the occupation of Lonnie and his friend Brian.
I would recommend this book to people who love a laid back kind of fiction without too much violence. I would also recommend this book to people who believe in God or are looking for answers in their lives as far as God is concerned.
