In Days of the Giants by R.J. Petrella, we follow the story of Slater Barnes. He is a fourth-year medical student and the second son of his parents, Reverend Barnes and Pamela Barnes. He has a brother Grant who graduated as a lawyer. He gets motivation from his friend Don Lindy to apply for a post as an intern at a Boston hospital. On the other hand, his mother requested him to try his stepfather's medical establishment, the Academy Hospital. The hospital was opposite the city hospital. He ultimately decides to commence his internship at the Boston hospital, which reinstates his confidence in the medical field. Every time he contemplated quitting, he thought of his late father's words.

The book begins with a set of suspense. The first scene opens with the residents' raid by thugs on the building. When on duty, his first assignment was on the accident floor of the hospital. The activities and the emotions surrounding the accident floor were spectacular. There is a rumor about a merger. As the story develops, it becomes probable that there is a conflict between Boston City hospital personnel and corrupt Metropolitan officials. As the saga advances, we get to witness the drama that comes along with the plan for the merger. They organize how they can salvage the issues arising from the merger of the two facilities. He was fighting for the rights of under-insured patients in the locality.

I loved the book. The plot of the merger is striking and astonishing. I loved the plainness of the language used in this book. The twists and turns made the story exotic. I treasured how Slater carried out his role. He turned out to be a beacon of hope for the patients he assisted. I loved how Slater handled stress and the rollercoaster of events in his internship experience. The way he handled his relationships and the announcement of the merger was admirable.

This thrilling story is spellbinding. There is nothing I disliked about this book. Slater proved to be a devoted intern. Although he was going through his issues, it did not derail him from pursuing his purpose. I embraced the inclusion of narration in the story; it made it delightful to read. I liked how the characters were well defined, and the scenes in all the chapters were quite simplified.

This book is brimming with romance, conflict, suspense, mystery, and murders. The reality of the pain of losing loved ones is evident in the book. The sense of humor is dazzling. There is melodrama, corruption, and politics in this story. The language is cordial, and the book is well written and well-edited. I embraced the commencement and end of the story. There are no errors in this book, and I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book. It will be thought-provoking for young adults and adults who are lovers of fiction, medical thrillers, and drama.
