Days of the Giants by R J Petrella is about Barnes, a young intern at Boston Medical Hospital. Despite challenges he faces, Barnes is determined to offer services to the patients at the hospital, which is in a poor condition. When Boston City Council begins the process of renovating the hospital, the city council officials see this as an opportunity to steal the money meant for this noble project. However, Barnes and his colleagues at the hospital stand their ground, and refuse to allow the city council officials to steal the funds meant for the project, which aims to improvement the hospital’s poor status.

I think this is one of the books I would like to read again and again. The author makes a case about something that is experienced in the society more often. People who always seek to steal from the public are all over. The fact that Boston City County officials want to steal money meant for the hospital, reflects the greed that exists in the society, and how those who are in positions of leadership hardly think about those whom they lead. People take advantage of the roles they are entrusted with to steal, instead of offering services to the people, something that the author has adequately mentioned in the book.

I have read this book, but I have not come across any negative thing. In fact, I like reading such books, which offers quality information about greedy government officials. I like how the author introduces Barnes, and the decision he is struggling with to study medicine, which again, reflects what many students go through before settling on a course. Maybe the only negative thing in this book are the minor editing mistakes, which are several though.

I rate this book 4 out of 4. Even though I have noted some editing and punctuation mistakes, I think that this is the kind of a book that a society requires, especially to understand more about government officials. I also like how the author appeals to the reader’s emotions, by stating that the officials are ready to kill, just to have their way and steal what they know for sure should be used for the benefit of the general public.

I recommend this book to medical officials, and government officials. To medical officials, this book introduces them to some of the challenges one is likely to face in line of duty. Working in a facility, which is in a poor state, and the people who should improve it, steal the funds meant to make it better. To government officials, this is a book to help with self-reflection. Reading it would help one to better understand how to behave when entrusted with public resources, and not to misuse the resources for personal gain.
