Days Of The Giants by R. J. Petrella is a sequel pertaining to the history of medicine in Boston, centered between the Boston City Hospital and The Academy. The book's protagonist, Slater Barnes goes on to give an account of his life in Boston as an intern and his experiences. Challenges in Boston hospital set him on an uncertain path concerning his choice of career. This gets him dealing with his alcoholism problem. As the book starts, the higher ups of the two hospitals decide to merge the two facilities together to form one. This brings about a dispute among the work staff of the Boston City Hospital and also the difference in governance of the hospitals since The Academy is privately owned while the Boston City Hospital is a public facility. Following the death of his best friend Don due to the merging dispute, Slater takes it upon himself and continues on with the planned strike to protest against the merge.

I like how humor is depicted in the book. I like how the author brings out the stories in the book. It gives the reader the narrative in two persons point of view, that of Slater and his father. This makes it easy to the reader to understand and follow up the events in the book. I like how rhetorical questions are put throughout the book. It gives the reader a sense of relation to the book's protagonist.

The book is interesting and fascinating to read. The way the stories are depicted throughout the book make it easy for the reader to understand and follow up to its end. I don't think there is any negative point to it.

I like the flow and storyline of the book. Getting the narrative from Slater's dead father who is "up high" as he overlooks everything makes the book more interesting. I found a few grammatical errors in the book. I will give it a four out of four stars rating considering its exceptional editing.

The book takes the reader through the medical history of Boston medicine and its attempt to describe how things were during the Days of the Giants. I would recommend it to anyone with love for history or is into medicine and its entirety considering the mention of various medical words and terms.
