Review of Lionels Law
Lionel was a young hotshot lawyer who was working at his father’s law firm. That firm was in Lionel’s family for generations. He knew his father wanted him to take over the law firm after his father’s retirement. But first, Lionel had to learn the skills of his trade. For this reason, Lionel’s father constantly assigned him less glamorous cases or to help other experienced lawyers. These meager jobs were sucking the passion out of Lionel’s work life.
Lionel’s boredom evaporated instantly when a mystery letter appeared—it was from an anonymous person who was seeking legal assistance. He had some bombshell information, and he wanted some legal guidance from the firm. Lionel’s father assigned this case to our young lawyer.
A whirlwind slowly replaced the silence in Lionel’s life. One thing led to another, and in a matter of few months, Lionel was assisting in an unusual case with an explosive outcome, he had fallen in love with a girl and married her, he met glamorous Valentina, and was now fighting to save the lives of his loved ones and himself from the hands of a crime boss, Farentino. Read Lionel’s Law written by Don Bennett to know more about Lionel and his thrilling escapades.
Although this book is full of inciting incidents, I didn’t enjoy it. I struggled hard to even finish the book. I wanted to throw up my hand and give up this book out of frustration. First of all, the book is full of spelling errors. This book is not edited at all; I found more than ten errors. There were spelling errors, missing/unnecessary punctuation marks, run-on sentences, confusion between similar sounding words (suit/suite, where/were, bazaar/bizarre…), and so on.
Second, the characters were unbearable; there was no strong character development. Lionel, as a protagonist, couldn’t carry the story. The author tried to portray him as some crusader with strong morality and inner strength. But all I could see was a twenty-something-year-old man who thought he knew every suffering in the world but had no real inkling of the true world. The characters reminded me of teenagers more than well-grown adults. Natasha was a glorified adult with a childish mentality; Valentina was a woman who was self-indulgent with no virtue; Lionel was a climber plant who could not survive without help from others. Characters moved as if they were in a hurry to reach the end of the book. Also, women in this book seemed to care more about a cat’s claw marks on their furniture than their loved ones.
I had to roll my eyes, reading the conversations between Lionel and Natasha in the beginning. The romance part can be described as grand proclamations of love without any essence of true love. There were multiple plot holes; I badly want to mention them, but I can’t because they will be spoilers. I will say this much—if you are a fan of John Grisham’s books or shows like Suits and Law & Order, you will be more knowledgeable than the lawyers in this book.
The story was like a wild horse running with no order. The “Lionel’s law” which was discussed in the book was laughable. I don’t think that discussion is possible in the real world. The author seems to think that mobsters’ gangs consist of only 10-20 people at most. Most importantly, grief was handled callously, with no real sadness or remorse. For all these reasons, I will rate this book one out of four stars. The only saving grace was Lionel’s cat named Leo; the story would have been even more unbearable without his presence.
Even though the “law” is mentioned in the title, this is not a courtroom drama. This book is more of a romance thriller. I will not recommend this book to anyone at this stage. If this book is edited by a professional, then I will recommend this book to readers who don’t mind run-of-the-mill fiction.

I appreciate the reviewer’s honesty but I would like to read it myself to understand the plot holes as mentioned, I will ignore the typos as long as the story is not too confusing.

The story is not at all confusing. The typos just showed the lack of care; it didn't affect my reading.Tania Chowdhury 1 wrote: ↑17 Feb 2022, 08:11 I wonder how this book was finished in a hurry. In the beginning, when his father makes him do odd jobs one can relate to a tough training phase, just like it happens in services...if you know what I mean, like building your morale, making you understand that every experience in life counts. I wonder such a wonderful thought was not explored beyond to show how a person can also transform.

I was frustrated because the book had a lot of potential but wasn't executed properly. If you read the book, please let me know your thoughts:tiphat:

Since I don't know anything about the profession, it will be great to hear your opinion about Lionel
