Arsenic and old men: A Mitch and Al Mystery is written by Glenn Ickler. This book looks at three friends, Mitch, Al and Dave who all work for the newspaper. They all go on a trip along with their spouses to honor the last wishes of Dave's Uncle, Walter Jerome who had just passed away. However on the trip, they face a lot of trials and tribulations upon their arrival, both surrounding the mysterious death of Walter Jerome and surrounding their departure from the island. On this journey, they make new friends and enemies also but most of all, they are there for each other all the way.

I liked this story mainly because it captures the true meaning of friendship and love alike, as we see the clear bond between the three friends and also between them and their wives. This story also has an unexpected end and is a good mystery as it wasn't really predicable who the culprits of the crime were. Even if people would have suspected them, there is an opportunity to be skeptical and still have doubts and suspect other people. I like this story because it equally shows the struggles reporters or journalists go through just to get or source for a story both from the authorities and from the people involved.

Furthermore, I didn't really like this story because it made use of unnecessary scenes which elongated the story instead of just focusing on the story line. This made the story boring at some point because the wait to find the culprits were too much.I also don't like the story because there were some unnecessary characters I think should have been avoided as they don't benefit the end result in any way. For example, both the scene where Walter Jerome's nanny escaped from the mental asylum and the character of the nanny as a whole should just have been mentioned in the book. I don't like this story, because there are scenes of nudity and seduction involved.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because despite the fact that it is good I recognized some significant errors in the book while reading it that cannot be easily ignored or bypassed. This errors also come in forms that can confuse the reader if care is not taken or if one is not attentive. Another reason, is because one not like that there is a lot of suspense before the end.

I will recommend this book for people who like to read a good and simple mystery novel and also have the patience to wait in order to find out the culprit.
