How would it feel, running away from a home full of brutality only to land straight to a cruel world at a tender age? Cry Baby Cry or Not by DeWandus Johnson brings to us an intriguing story relatable to the above question.

This book is about a ten-year-old girl by the name of Trina. She is raised by Jackie a single mother. Due to her state of being deaf and mute, she is mad at the world. This translates to how she treats Trina with brutality. She is molested by Marco and also introduces Mimi her friend and both become pornstars. Trina later falls in love with Mistro, who also loves her back and cares for her genuinely. Mistro is also a drug dealer specifically Cocaine. Trina has been introduced to the world of drugs apart from being a Pornstar earlier. Later on the two people in her life, Jackie and Mistro die and she is left alone in the cruel world. She ends up in Dino's hands who mishandle her. She escapes by killing him by stabbing him with a knife. She opts to stay with Chocolate who unfortunately wants to use here in the Hoe business. Luckily enough she is rescued by Tyrik who lives with henceforth.

This book is a twist and turn of unfolding events of street life. I was tied and engrossed in the story right from the start to the end.DeWandus's creativity was evident in this informative story. His powerful skill of narrating activities in the world of the teens made me visualize all the events in the story.

The author uniquely developed the characters. Each of them played a key role in making this story a success. I specifically loved Trina. Although the world threw stones at her, she came out of it strong. In the end, she chose the right thing even though her past was soiled. I also loved Mimi's mother. After realizing the damage caused to her daughter's life in her absence, she changed her lifestyle so that she can take care of her.

DeWandus did exceptional work in trying to bring out the fact that, the behavior in adulthood is molded in childhood. This is evident in the life of Trina, she was used as a Pornstar at a tender age and we can see her being easily influenced into Hoe's business. He also passed that when teen mothers are forgetting to take care of their children the world is tirelessly introducing them to the worst. This is evident in the life of Mimi. While her mother is busy with her lifestyle, Trina introduces her to Marco who uses them as Pornstars.

The author used simple English which can easily be understood. This is very evident throughout the book. The book has a good flow from one event to the other. This gave me the urge to turn the pages without getting bored. However, this book should be kept away from children due to the sexual content in several parts of the book.

I loved every bit of this book. This is because the author was so plain about everything without hiding a thing. This brought a clear picture of what he meant. I assume this book was professionally edited. This is on the account that I just found mere typographical errors.

I credit this book a well-deserved 4 out of 4. The book was so educative, direct to the point with clear and vivid events to visualize about. I would recommend this book to teenage parents, young adults, and readers who love works of Fiction.
