The Attuned is a story of a man who seems to be attuned to the danger of gunfights, terrorists’ attacks and hostility. The protagonist, whose real name was withheld, is a man that possesses an interesting amount of bravery against mortals and the immortal being of death. This is an adventurous novel, crafted in a way that keeps the readers in suspense, reaching out and grasping for more of its content.

The Attuned is the second book of an intended trilogy series by Gary B. Haley. Its prequel is titled, ‘The Attunement’. The book describes the events that take place as the protagonist tries to make his way home from the Middle East. His journey was more of an adventure as he had to make various escapades from terrorists, the FBI and other enemies that just wanted his life. He started the journey with his side-kicks in the adventure, FBI agent Carla and Detective Kemal. They both later departed from him to fend for his safety alone with no passport and means of identification.

The protagonist, who was sometimes referred to as Jim, is a person with special intuitive abilities and powers. These abilities come in handy as he makes this dangerous journey. He makes his way to an institution where he was told he would meet people with special abilities like him but things also end badly and he has to also escape from being killed there. What is his fate? Will his special powers sustain his life? Will he be able to get to his home in one piece?

When I first read that The Attuned was a sequel to a book, I was first skeptical as to whether I would be able to comprehend the story, as I had not read its prequel. On reading The Attuned, I found out that it can also be seen as a standalone novel and can completely be understood by someone who has not read its prequel. The book carries adventure, crime, thriller and suspense themes with a spice of love and romance. The author crafted the scenes in a way that made me feel like I was watching the adventures live and I appreciate this about the book. At the end of the book, the author included a glossary of the unfamiliar and non-English words that were used in the book and I find this very applaudable.

There was nothing to dislike about the book. it is beautifully crafted and exceptionally well-edited. I give the book a rating of four out of four stars and I recommend it to teenagers and adults who love books of adventure and are not repulsed by violence.
