Review of Snow Country Lane
The novel, written by Sarah Vail, Snow Country Lane, starts off with Samuel Graden, kidnapper-for-hire, who is describing his latest kidnaps and drop offs. The scenes of where the kidnappings happen, seems innocent, but as it is described, you get that this is how quickly kidnapping can take place, and what the rest of the book unravels.
The next few chapters introduce you to Tim Mc Andrews, who works at King County as a district attorney, and has just recently married the wealthy heiress, Daniella St Clair (AKA Dani). Due to an incident at their residence that caused the death an intruder, they decide it is time to take some time out at the family’s estate at Schweitzer Mountain in Idaho for a skiing trip. It was also a very strong instruction from his boss, district attorney boss, Paul Goddard, that it was time to give the board of commissioners’ time to calm down about the killing of the intruder at the Mc Andrews Residence.
Tim and Daniella are joined by their long-times friends and work colleagues, Scott Renton, a Seattle Police Department detective, and his girlfriend, Kathy Hope, a medical examiner. Also joining them would be Daniella’s pilot, Mitch Brady, and his wife, Shannon.
The book brings into light the likes of Senator Hershel “Buddy” Shearer, Daniella’s political neighbour; and Charlie Hayes, his campaign manager. It shows the life from a politician’s perspective and how things can be used for good and evil, even someone’s views can be swayed for the right amount of money and power.
Along the way you meet the delightful SBC News reporter, Beebe Knoll, who is always looking for a juicy news story, often at the expense of Tim Mc Andrews. You also meet Elias Cain, who is with the FBI; Daniella’s attorney, Brad Hollingsrow; Miguel Gonzales, with Senator Shearer’s security detail and undercover FBI Agent.
While the group of vacationers are relaxing, the “kidnapper-for-hire” strikes at the very spot where all of the off-duty group happen to be and spot the kidnapping happen. The fun begins with a chase on Snow Country Lane, in hot pursuit of the snow mobile kidnapper.
By chasing the kidnapper, they manage to uncover the sinister ring of trafficking taking place for the morally depraved and sick reasons that some people hire the kidnapper. The problem is they have to come up with a good cover plan to find the missing children, foil the would-be plot of the sinister plans to make the children vanish, all while trying to find them, and prevent any further kidnappings and deaths from taking place.
Between the murders, kidnapping, drugs of all sorts, there still seems to be love, hope, and truth that prevails when good people step up, and stand up for the innocent children. Even when some have lost their way, they will still stand up to the evil, even if it kills them, or they have to do the killing.
This book will keep you reading it until the end. If you do not follow every paragraph carefully, you may miss the next twist that gets revealed.
At first the book seems a bit long winded when introducing everyone, but once you get through the initial persona introductions, you realise why it is needed and who fits in where and why.
This book would be suitable for those looking for a good thriller, with a bit of action, with a dash of romance and drama thrown in the mix. I would rate the book 4 out of 4 as I felt it was edited professionally, and well thought out. I could not find any editorial errors that could be of great significance which makes for easy reading. There was minor vulgarity that could be considered borderline as quotations.
