Review of Going Gone
Going Gone by Abraham Lopez is an anthology of 12 different storylines with most of them centred on politics and what goes on in today's world. The story I liked most was titled The Jewel Thief. Minister Saiid, an admired world leader is assassinated. The story is told from the Killer's point of view giving a glimpse of all the events that take place. Kurt Ramis, the former assistant director of the CIA, is tasked with the work of pointing out the killer and is torn on which nation should be blamed for the death. This story is found in the second chapter titled Going And Gone. The book provides information on Abraham Lopez at the end of the book and later provides an excerpt of The Man, a book by the same author.
Going Gone offers more insight into today's political world. The author vividly describes the events that occur in the book. All of the stories included in the book are well introduced. The characters have a proper background and the character is well-developed for every character. Since the stories are short and the reader isn't aware of the characters further activities, the amount of suspense incorporated is worth completing the whole anthology. The author also mentions some of the 21st-century television stations including CNN and Al Jazeera proving that the matters discussed are faced in the 21st-century government.
I love the fact that the author discussed rare aspects of investigations such as the use of mantras. This is an aspect that is rarely found in modern world crime fiction novels. Although the book had a lot of positive aspects, I realised that the author used a lot of words in italics that were not necessary to be written in italics. This aspect made it hard to keep up with either thoughts or conversations between the characters.
I rate Going Gone by Abraham Lopez 3 out of 4 stars. I rate it one star lower due to the unnecessary writing of the words in italics and because the text lacked more action than necessary. I, however, do not give it a lower rating since the book incorporates a lot of basic skills necessary in life. It also contains a lot of humour in the conversations and the author had a proper choice of character names like Anna Mendoza.
I recommend this book to adult teens and adults. I don't recommend it to children because the book uses a lot of profanity. I also discourage It among younger teens since one of the stories includes a method of committing suicide and it's improper for underage teens. adults who love politics and events that take place in the world will certainly enjoy this book.
