Tragedy fell upon Lily on a fateful night on June 17, 1971. Ever since, she made a pause on her past and tried to move on by leaving her hometown with her mother and never coming back, or at least that's what she tought. However, after 24 years her mother passed away. She receives a letter from her solicitor Timothy, asking Lily to come back to the hearing of her mother's will. By a twist of fate not only will she have to go back to the place where it all began, but Lily starts to uncovering secrets that will help her to find out the truth about her family and most importantly, the truth about that night. The Aviculturist by Ann Smythe will have you at the edge of your seat with an excellent combination of mystery, murder, action and romance.

I loved this book, especially the characters. The book has not only very lovable characters but it has an incredible development for each one, even for the secondary roles. Personally, I believe that a book can have a great plot and great twists, but if you cannot feel empathy or identify yourself with the characters, it's very hard to enjoy. The Aviculturist exceeded my expectations in this aspect and made me suffer, cry, laugh and love as if I was part of the story as well.

The story has a great pace and is well written. The book is organized in short chapters which makes it very easy to read. Ann Smythe uses a great style and flow which reflects on her power to make you want to continue to read non-stop.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I will recommend this specially for young adults who love drama, romance and mystery. People who love twists and unraveling mysteries will really enjoy this experience. However, the book has some schocking scenes that are still burned in my imagination which may be disturbing for audiences who are sensitive to violence and death, so read it at your own discretion. I didn’t find any mistakes, so it is professionally edited.

In conclusion, The Aviculturist will have you go thorugh all the ordeals and painful events alongside their characters which will make you not only root for them, but inspire you to fight along their side. Even for the antagonists of this story, Ann Smythe teaches us that no person is born evil. We all have circumstances in life that may guide us to a dark place, but we are the ones that choose which path to take.
