Review of Demon Freaks
Let's face it, being a teenager is a complicated, sometimes fun, oftentimes frustrating stage in our lives that we all have to deal with. One such complication (and it's a particularly nasty one at that) which all teenagers have to endure every year until they leave school are exams. These nightmare-inducing tests on paper are bad enough on their own, without including all the hours you spend preparing for them the night before, but add demons, dark magic and wicked, manicured lawn-loving golfers into that already sour mix, and you're in for a foul time.
The Slaughter brothers learn that lousy fact the hard way. Fun-loving Ron and practical-minded Bing Slaughter just wanted a nice quiet evening with their bandmates, to study for their dreaded SAT's the following morning and to possibly fit in a good old fashioned jam session while they're at it. What the brothers didn't expect was for their friends to be kidnapped by the demented Golfers, dead set on sacrificing their pals to summon a raging demon to earth. This rather inconvenient turn of events forces Ron and Bing to abandon their studies and music to rescue their friends before it's too late. The night was once young, but now it's a race against time before the Golfers strike the final blow. Before the Slaughter brothers can save their friends, they first have to find them, and before they find them, they first have to escape the Golfers themselves and then deal with a few other horrors after that. Piece of cake, well no, not really, but Bing and Ron wouldn't mind a piece of cake, or maybe a burger if you have any going spare.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book when I started reading it. It started well and continued to get better and better with every turn of the page until the sad moment when I reached the end. I love the characters, their inner turmoil entertaining, as each of them faces their own set of challenges, the outcomes of which will determine whether they survive the night or not. The author has cleverly woven this hilarious tale together, taking care not to confuse his readers in this fast-paced book. I appreciated his continuous use of humour and that even though his descriptions in the book are usually brief, they were always clear and concise. Well done to the writer for bringing his creations to life so vividly.
I have absolutely no criticisms to make about this book, and I would like to clearly state that I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. It captured my attention and held it from start to finish. I found no errors within the text of this book, so for that reason, I am content to say that it was edited by a professional editor.
I would recommend Demon Freaks by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison to all readers who have a taste for dark themed books with a decent dose of humour and action throughout. The genre of this book falls under the category of c/t/m/h. I would not recommend this novel to readers who are under the age of seventeen.
I am happy to award this lively tale a full rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I will certainly be on the lookout for other books written by this author.
