Review of Duplicity
The book Duplicity had all the parts of terrorism, hate, love, sexual abuse, bisexuality, cancer, and mental illness. Fin C Grey’s scenes in each chapter are very descriptive and have an unexpected ending. The story had plotted beautifully, making it easy to identify the actuality of time. Since there were lots of details happening in each chapter, it is better to give extra time. This book gave me Goosebumps each time as it contains all that suspense and curiosity. Till the end of the book, I could never put the book down.
I like the book cover and title personally. I thought it was a horror story, but no, this is a crime thriller story having all concepts of a family who tried to get a peaceful living like others. Throughout the fiction, Tom and Daniel was the main character. The affection between Tom and Daniel was falling off when Daniel’s mom Alison passed out who was suffering from cancer. Since Daniel’s childhood, he was afraid of the lorry drivers because of some awful memories. Daniel wanted the love and affection from his mom after she had left. He ran away from home in search of his new life. Another character Waqar, the violence he will continually endure from his father may destroy him and allow someone else to inveigle their way into Daniel’s soul as he seeks out a different purgatory. One thing was sure Daniel’s yearning for Waqar, or some version of Waqar, will be eternal after befriending with Waqar.
Grey adequately described all the characters in particular. The author also made sure to differentiate between the flash blacks and the present situations when the scene took place. The author was good at illustrating the characters. Also, he was good at building up an imaginary destructive sequence which made the story captivating. Downhearted shadowy scenes, painful moments, unforgettable memories, terrorism, and other gloomy parts climb up from each page.
I am glad to give this book 3 out of 4. I couldn’t stop reading till the end of the book but, till chapter 5, I couldn’t get what was going on in the story. Perhaps I wasn’t giving attention to what was happening. Gradually moving on to the chapter gave me the enthusiasm to complete the whole book out of curiosity. Overall it was a great book and, I’m looking forward to reading other books by Fin C Grey.
The book Duplicity was very intriguing. I recommend this book to young adults who can handle the painful arena and are not younger than that as it includes many sensitive parts where there is cruelty in animals, self-immolation, suicide. Therefore it is suitable for a mature mindset, looking for a crime thriller, family-based, hurtful memories, and regrets, who can experience the suspense. Now it’s your time to get into this book!
