In a world full of hopes and dreams, four individuals could have never imagined their journey to a brighter future would be disrupted by an entourage of corrupt leaders with false intentions. Lin Hui and Cheung Mingzhu were Shenzhen scholarship students destined for educational greatness. Alina Balauru and Matei Barbu were two individuals from Romania looking to start a better life in a new country with the promise of jobs and money. All four became unfortunate victims to the torturous world of human trafficking. The real question becomes, who is ultimately responsible for the trafficking operation? With several lives on the line and three murders to solve, a team of detectives work to uncover the mystery of who is running these trafficking rings before time runs out.

As a chronic book lover, The Trafficking Murders is one of the best books I have ever read. Brian O’Hare created a story that was able to intertwine the reality of human trafficking with the real and raw viewpoints from what it could be like as a helpless victim. He twisted each scenario in a way that leaves you questioning your own idea of potential outcomes. I went through this novel feeling every type of emotion from empathy to sadness, then anger to resolve. Although this book is longer in length, you finish with clear answers and a clear perspective. The result was explained in such depth that addressed every question a reader could have.

I truly cannot find a negative to this story. Every character had an important role in the story from Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan to his partner Sergeant Denise Stewart, and the main suspects Zhao Liang and Huang Tao were equally as dynamic. There was not a character or situation in this book that was irrelevant or not needed. It was well edited which allowed me to flow through the story easily. I also appreciated the index of people and acronym meanings at the beginning to give me a reference point, as there were a lot of moving pieces throughout each chapter.

I rate this book four out of four stars and would read it again! I would recommend this book to those who enjoy mystery thriller or crime novels of ages teen to adult. The topic of human trafficking can be sensitive, but it is also a great way to educate individuals on the realities some face in various countries.
