The Trafficking Murders by Brian O'Hare is a crime thriller, and it is the fifth book in the Inspector Sheehan Mysteries series. The story follows Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team as they try to solve a series of murders in Belfast. The hunt for the cold-blooded killer, The Shadow, leads them to a human trafficking ring. They put in everything they have to save a young Chinese girl when they realize that she is next on the list of The Shadow.

I absolutely loved the book. I enjoyed the last novel in the series, but the author managed to make this story even more intriguing. Each and every aspect of the story was in equal measure. The plot moved at a steady pace, neither rushing nor lagging anywhere. The tense moments were beautifully captured by the author, and they managed to keep me hooked till the end. The climax was breathtaking. I never could have guessed who the killer was.

Just like last time, the characters were my favorite in the story. It felt like I was meeting old friends. It was the characters who moved the story forward, be it the protagonists or the antagonists. The emotional aspect was done perfectly, and it attached me to the characters and made me more invested in their story. Again, I loved the camaraderie between the team members. They were more like family than colleagues for each other, and the warmth they shared lit up the dark atmosphere of the plot.

The book is the fifth in the series but can be read as a standalone novel. The connection to previous novels is very minor, and the readers will have no problem grasping the flow of the story.

The author has provided a list of characters and a glossary of some acronyms of the Police Service of Northern Ireland at the beginning of the book which is of huge convenience to the readers.

I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It is professionally edited, and there is only one error in the story. The book is recommended for mature readers only due to the subject matter. Even though the book deals with human trafficking and prostitution, the book didn't have a single graphic scene of abuse or sexual violence. It was only indicative. The author described the plight of the abused girls through their emotions, and that is commendable. I highly recommend this book to those who love crime fiction.
