Review of Shadow Game
Written by A. M. Adair, Shadow Game is a crime thriller full of action and ardent anticipation. The story revolves around Elle Anderson, the powerful female lead. She has been appointed to destroy a deadly terrorist group, Daesh. Having given a more than qualifying team, Elle is all set for yet another adventurous mission. Just like any other job, this one is equally thrilling and life-risking. Enter the electrifying world of Elle Anderson and uncover the enigmatic ways of her life.
Elle is the perfect character for an extraordinary novel like Shadow Game. For the world, she is a photographer that owns 2 houses. However, in reality, Elle is a highly trained marksman (or rather woman) who is perfectly capable of destroying her target with little to no traces. Being extremely intelligent and highly experienced, Elle knows better than to doubt her instincts. Over the years she has learnt to mask her emotions and to control her brain and body. This makes her a lethal human weapon. She has tactics developed over the years and with her team- Tex, Jack, and Eve, Elle is almost indestructible. So, how does she end up tied to a chair in a dingy old room, with no clothes on other than the blindfold on her eyes?
Shadow Game is the definition of a gripping plot with exceptional characters. No part of the story feels stagnant, neither are there any skips in the plot. The book is perfectly sized to occupy Elle’s story with all the required details to make the plot more engrossing. The author has made perfect use of her knowledge and experience of real events to bring more and more reality to the book. The details make it so realistic that it felt like I was watching a movie. I could see all the scenes play in front of my eyes. The writing is exceptional. If one didn’t know that this book is a debut work, they would think that a very experienced author has written it. I applaud Adair’s ability to come up with such an amazing plot and narrate it in such an incredible manner too. It was very enjoyable to learn about the lives of people who risk themselves in secrecy to bring down the wicked.
I loved everything about the book, but there are certain things that I must warn future readers about. The book is not at all for weak-hearted. There are many graphic scenes and the story contains a plethora of violence. For those who cannot handle such a plot, I would not advise them to try this book. The romance is very minimal in this story and includes minor amounts of erotic scenes. The author has not held back on profanity. For me, it goes along with the plot, but those who mind profanity would probably not enjoy this book. Kids and sensitive readers are not the ideal audiences for Shadow Game.
There is nothing that I disliked about this book. No errors were discovered by yours truly, thus proving that the book is professionally edited. Considering all my above-mentioned points, I rate Shadow Game a full 4 out of 4 stars. Action, thrill, and crime novel lovers would definitely enjoy this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy of Elle Anderson.
