Creighton has a reputation as Lucifer's best soul catcher. Though his methods are rarely honorable, Creighton always succeeds in bringing a soul back to hell when he returns. When he is assigned to capture the soul of an angel, he immediately attempts to capture the purest of them all. Ariel is a young and inexperienced angel, but her passion and strength surprises Creighton. Trapped together, they learn that they are destined to share a bond, and a soul, whether they like it or not. Slowly, Ariel teaches Creighton empathy and gentleness; he teachers her strength and grit. Working together, they must tackle their biggest obstacle: Lucifer. However, they learn that their bond is destined to change Hell forever.

I would have happily read an entire novel by Kaylin McCarren on the slow crumping of Benjamin Poe's life as he comes to discover the darkness of his son. I was voraciously picking up breadcrumbs to unravel events that happened before the narrative even began. What happened to his daughter Riley? Similarly, the little old man in the woods could have been a horror novel all on its own. Each character had depth and flaws, making them fascinating. When the narrative finally turned to focus on Creighton, I was a little sad to move on but eager to discover more about him.

While I devoured every page, I did not love the ending. To avoid spoilers, I will simply say that Lilith's actions did not make sense. She was a minor character with no reason to be so selfless towards Ariel. Further, the results between Creighton and Ariel could have occurred without Lilith's intervention. In fact, it would have been more meaningful if Lilith has not been involved behind helping Creighton rescue her from Lucifer.

With shows like "Supernatural" and "Lucifer" on the air, this novel fits right in. Fans of the shows will love Soul Seeker. You must be willing to view demons as servers of justice and expect every character to be capable of both good and bad depending on the situation. However, religious audiences may want to steer clear due to the favorable light cast upon some of the infamous demonic characters such as Lilith and Creighton. In a romance, the audience wants to fall in love with the leading man; in this case, that requires falling in love with a demon.

Overall, I rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars. The characters are extraordinarily complex and the editing is almost flawless. However, the storyline has unnecessary events and sometimes lacks an emotional connection between the romantic couple.
