Akira is a trained Japanese assassin who works for the Zakura-kai gang. She was sent on a cruise in the Caribbean for a revenge mission. The mission: figure out who murdered Mitsui’s, the Zakura-kai leader's, sister. The murderer is either Paul or Sara Lyons, or Sara’s doctor, Peter Bradshaw. Once Akira discovers which one of them is the murderer, they will be killed by Takashi, another assassin sent on the mission to act as Akira’s father. When the mission is complete, Akira will be freed of her duties to Mitsui and the Zakura-kai. If she fails, her mother in Japan will be killed.

In order for Akira to find the murderer, she must get close to the Lyons family. Paul Lyons has a nephew, Devon, and Akira plans to seduce him to gain his trust and then get information from him. She has done this many times before and is very good at getting control of a man (emotionally and physically). Little did she know that she would fall deeply in love with him.

Twisted Threads by Kaylin McFarren is a fast-paced crime/thriller/mystery novel that also incorporates a love story. The author does a great job of developing the characters. Each one of them has their own issues and secrets. This leaves the reader waiting and wondering when the secrets will be revealed. Even the main character, Akira, is flawed. However, the love between Akira and Devon is so strong and so well described in the book, that it is easy for the reader to empathize with someone who makes a living by killing people.

I give Twisted Threads 4 out of 4 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The dialogue between the characters flowed nicely and the plot was intriguing because of all the secrets and deception between the characters. There were also many small plots within the book, such as the relationship between Sara and her doctor. This kept the story interesting. My favorite part of the book was that Devon was able to fall in love with Akira despite his past mistakes with women. Also, I did not notice any errors.

I recommend this book to all readers over the age of 18 because there are many genres intertwined, such as crime, mystery, and romance. The age restriction is because there are a few detailed sex scenes. Also, forgiveness and moving on from past mistakes are themes included in the book. When the story ends, the reader is left thinking about how the characters lives will go on.
