East Wind, by Jack Winnick, is a fast-paced story detailing the lives and legacies of terrorists and FBI agents. Lara, a successful FBI agent who has more than proven herself, still finds it difficult to navigate the “man’s world” of the FBI. She is making huge strides with infiltrating the dark web by tracking terrorists when she suddenly finds herself amid a major plot of terrorism against the United States. To make matters worse, she has been partnered with Uri, a special operations field officer of the Israeli government, who is not familiar with how things are done in the FBI or the United States.

Lara can handle herself, but she is thrown off her game when she and Uri begin to work closely together, and she discovers an undeniable connection between the two of them. The two agents are put to the task of unraveling a credible terrorist plan to blow up multiple cities in the U.S. and kill thousands of innocent people. Death, terrorism, patriotism, religion, and loyalty are all intermixed with romance in this explosive thriller. Hang on for the ride.

This novel is expertly written and edited. The author takes on many complex issues facing our world today. This book is written for adult audiences. Themes such as terrorism, death, murder, and other dark scenarios are outlined in this book. The author is very knowledgeable about middle eastern culture, religion, and history. It is also evident that he is extremely knowledgeable about nuclear physics.

I was initially interested in this book because I was curious as to how an author would go about mixing romance with all of the other complex themes in this book. I was slightly skeptical that it would be able to hold my attention. In full disclosure, I did have difficulty pushing through some of the chapters that outlined an overabundance of detail regarding nuclear physics and middle eastern history. However, the plot and writing style drew me back in once I was able to move past this detail. I found myself reading faster to get to the part of the story narrated by the main bomber. Even though it is fiction, I found it fascinating to get a look into the mind of the kind of person that would be able to carry out such an act.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and would recommend it to anyone who would be interested in discovering all sides of the act of terrorism. The romance part of the storyline takes a back seat to the overall plot, so don’t let that deter you from reading this face-paced, action-packed thriller.
