Review by McGarry16 -- East Wind, 2nd edition
East Wind (2nd Edition) (title italicized) by Jack Winnick is a thriller novel with a bit of a romantic twist inserted as well. Its plot consists of terrorists on U.S. land and beyond trying to scheme and plan attacks to wreck the American economy and our way of life as we know it with explosions that were built on American soil.
Due to the state of the National emergency, all hands including local PD, state police as well as Homeland Security, FBI and CIA must get involved, however, the tracking is mostly dependent on two Agents, Uri Levin and Lara Edmond. They both come from very different backgrounds and work for different agencies, however, have the same overall goal. With their high skill sets they have to try to prevent this inconceivable ongoing terrorist threat. They have to act quick before more harm is done and are dealing with personal matters in the midst of it. Uri has found himself falling for the attractive Agent Lara Edmond and wondering if she feels the same. Will they be able to stop the terrorist attacks or will they fail and their careers be at stake?
The story is set in different parts of the U.S. where the terrorists are thought to be planning their next attacks. The author skips around a bit, however, this is understandable once the depth of the story and the characters' roles are revealed.
The book was very interesting, even giving details on the explosives and their appearance to make it seem real and mentioned previous real terrorist attacks the U.S. has suffered such as 9-11 with the World Trade Center attack and ruin. The plot of this book was solid with no holes that I detected. There are a couple of twists that give the book added excitement including an internal leak as well as the possible romance between Uri and Lara, the two main agents on the case.
East Wind is very well edited. I only found one typographical error. There were only two profanities and one romantically explicit scene throughout. That being said, I think the book would be appropriate for adult readers. Audiences that like a terrorist style plot thriller/action would be well suited to read this book. Audiences that do not like violence, descriptive fights/combat or action/thrillers would not be well suited reading this book.
I am giving East Wind the maximum rating of 4 out of 4 stars (rating bolded). I enjoyed this book and really didn't find anything I didn't like about it. What I liked most was the readability the book offers and that there were twists that kept it interesting. All in all, I feel it deserves the maximum rating.
