The Last Assassination by James E. Doucette. I rate this book a 4 out of 4. It was intense and well worth the read. It was well edited and I believe well researched. Let me be clear, this is not a fantasy or fiction. This is about terrorism. This book is a political thriller. Even though the characters are made up, this is very much a story that is applicable to our real world struggles. This is not something I would reccomend for children but teens and adults would enjoy it. The different cultural variations found in this book are fascinating. It opens your eyes to struggles of societies we don't normally see as Americans. The concept that this storyline can easily play out and maybe has, is fascinating and terrifying at the same time. There is a very deep level of surrealism in this book. It is a very intense and well scripted tale.

As you go through the book you see how every character has a part to play in the outcome and how easily things could swing the opposite direction if one person did not play their part. It is hard to pin point a main character as the book is more about the plot, the outcome and the in-between happenings versus being about an individual character. The characters are all tied together intricately. And as each characters is affected by the plot they are drawn more deeply into the story.

Phillip and Henry get tangled up in a trap, so to speak, at a turning point in their lives. They are ready to lay down their secret lives as assassins for hire and leave their revenge behind just as they are pulled into one last mission. Mark and Saul and Phillip, all trained by the Mossad, must reunite to join forces in saving their respective countries fates. It is a story of country being pitted against country. Amanda plays a large role as she has to wade past the red tape to do what must be done.

Each character is specifically developed and detailed, even the mini storylines of the wives of these complicated men. The way these women respond to revelations and situations seems very honest and makes the book all the more realistic and surreal.

All in all, I enjoyed the book. It's not normally my favorite genre to read but it was enjoyable. Doucette does a good job of balancing the plot to keep you guessing. If you like crime, politics, world relations, thrillers, espionage, and conspiracy then this book is for you. The best part of the book for me was the guessing game. What I liked least was the time it took to get there. At times, I felt the book progressed a little slow. I don't know that it is something I would read again but only because this is not my favorite style of book to read. However, I would be interested in seeing more from Doucette in the future. I feel he has a good future in being a writer.
