An Imperfect Crime by Fred G. Baker is a great crime/ mystery that draws you in right away. The mystery begins with two struggling authors devising a scheme to commit the "perfect crime" to draw attention and sell their book. The perfect crime is a murder. No body is found and the dead person is suppose to show up alive before the jury convicts the murderer. The scheme doesn't go as planned. Detective Lori Sanchez gets involved with the investigation along with a priest named Father Montero. There are a lot of twists and turns along the way. The plot thickens and the reader is drawn into a complicated mystery involving Mexican cartels, human trafficking and murder. This is a real nail biter and you will have difficulty putting the book down.

I really liked this Crime/Mystery because the plot develops quickly. The book doesn't have the usual sex and profanity that you find in many mysteries. There are many twists and turns throughout the book. There are many characters introduced and it is sometimes difficult to sort them all out. But there are opportunities to catch-up as detective Sanchez updates developments in the case with Father Montero. I enjoyed the uniqueness of a detective teaming up with a priest who is a former cop.

I enjoyed the realism of the story. The author showed all the politics involved within the police department and in dealing with multiple law enforcement agencies. I like how he develop the relationship between the detective and the priest. I was wondering if that relationship would eventually develop into a romance. I thought the car chase scene at the end was a bit unbelievable, although it would probably make a great movie script. For this reason I would give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I would highly recommend this Crime/Mystery. I look forward to future mysteries by the author.
