An Imperfect Crime by Fred G Baker is the perfect book for anyone that enjoys police investigation that isn’t just an easily solved case. This book undoubtedly has a little bit of everything. Kidnapping, gunrunning, gun drug sales, missing persons and lots of action is just a few things in this book that kept me reading until late in the evenings.

After a man is wrongfully convicted, Father Montero and curious cop, Detective Sanchez does everything in their power to prove he was not the killer and also to find the real culprit. The detective knew from the beginning that something was wrong with the crime scene, it was too easy and too clean. After the alleged murderer consulted with the priest, he also was convinced that he was wrongfully accused. The two of them searched high and low to genuinely try and figure out what indeed did happen to all the missing victims and who was responsible. There were many questions, but not a lot of answers when digging deeper into the case. They had to work with other organizations, while the case was intertwined in politics and organized crime.

It was enjoyable to read how the different departments could work together and help one another in solving the crimes. The priest made fast friends with the detective and also got closely involved with the investigation. He helped gather information, think of possible solutions and saved the officer from the gang's blazing guns.

Every so often during the book I could feel it was dragging a little, but these parts were filled with character building and contained significant information to understand the ultimate conclusion. It was also relatively easy to predict who the real murderer was, but when trying to figure out the possible reasons and used methods behind the crimes, it got a little complicated. There were a lot of unique twists and turns during the book and that is what kept it extremely exciting to keep reading. The ending was not what I expected and it definitely leaves an option for a second book.

I will be keeping my eyes out for the rest of this series and even more from this writer. I enjoyed the way he started the book and also developed the intriguing plot. The editing of this book was amazing and I experienced no problem with it. Definitely 3 out of 4 stars for this book.
