Review by Sabihah -- Lost Secret of the Ancient Ones
The novel, Lost Secret of the Ancient Ones by Chris Reynolds is a part of ‘THE MANNA CHRONICLES’. It has 39 chapters and is in the science fiction genre. The book is based around the main character, Maya Harrington, who is in search for her father, Alex. She is accompanied by her father’s diary which she was given suspiciously. In her father’s diary, she comes across clues and passages which intrigue her. On her journey, Maya and her friend travel around and meet different people who happen to know or have previously seen her father, which could only mean she is getting close to her father.
The book indulges in ancient myths, legends, prophesies and religion. Especially Mayas take on religion. As an atheist, Maya believes in science and is not keen on religion, it is confusing to her, as she states, ‘God is all powerful, but God can’t stop Satan’. She questions the existence of God, however, later finds herself opening her mind to the possibilities because of the circumstances surrounding her.
Overall, I did not notice any errors in the book, you can tell that the author has spent quality time on the research and on writing this book from the beginning all the way through to the end. There was a minor case of attempted rape in the first half of the book, this however does not need a warning. I cannot say more without giving away spoilers. The great thing is that it is part of a set; the next book would continue with the fascinating story of Maya, now with the secret, continuing her journey.
I particularly liked the pace of the book; the author does not waffle and gets straight to the point. There is something happening in every chapter of the book. I also liked the interesting prophesies that were mentioned throughout the book which helped you stay curious. I did not find anything I disliked in the book; it was well deserved to be continued as a series.
I rate this book four out of four stars for keeping me hooked. The book seems to be edited well and is straightforward. I was pleasantly pleased with the outcome of the book and would give The Manna Chronicles a chance. I chose to rate this book a 4 because it seems to be professionally edited, since I did not come across any errors; spelling or grammatical. Therefore, I have no reason to rate this book any less. I recommend this book to adults who are interested in fascinating prophesies and science fiction and those willing to read a set.
