Review by Shrijita -- Lost Secret of the Ancient Ones
A thrilling story about a young archaeologist just out of college. Maya’s story takes you on a journey around the world and through time. It completely blew my mind. The history of all the different archaeological sites is so interesting. This book has everything, adventure, mystery, action, history and a good storyline. One also gets to know about so many things. On every page there is a new twist and a new mystery waiting to be solved. From the very beginning till the end, it had my full attention.
Maya Harrington, daughter of Alex Harrington has just completed her Ph.D. when her father goes missing and the only clue that she has is his diary. Just as her world turns upside down, she receives a job request from one of the best companies in the world based on her thesis regarding the ‘Master Builders’. The job is to find the ‘Garden of Eden’ and in return she will be provided with all the funds and resources she requires for conducting her research and finding her father. Along with her friends JW and Layla, Maya sets upon her quest. Her journey takes her through the valleys in Colorado, the jungles of Peru, the Amazon Basin, the Caves in Guatemala and many more. Ancient secrets of the past are coming into light but the answers defy science and logic. Who were the ‘Master Builders’? How did the ancient engineers build such architectural marvels, without any mathematical or scientific knowledge thousands of years ago? Who helped them? What is all this, and how did her father, a quantum physicist get involved into all this. Time is running out and dangers are at every step, will Maya be able to solve the mystery before it’s too late.
The author Chris Reynolds did an amazing job with the storyline and even included himself in the story. His writing style is easy to comprehend and in depth. His descriptions are easy to understand and makes it easier for the reader to imagine. The characters are unique and likable. I really loved Layla’s character. Even without a background in History and Archaeology, she was able to help Maya using her amazing hacking skills by being the top-class computer whiz that she was.
I would rate the book ‘Lost Secret of the Ancient Ones’ 4 out of 4 stars. It was a really good book even though there were a few typos. It’s a book that sucks you into a world of fantasy and mystery. I really like the historic aspect of the book and how it relates with the mysteries of the past linked with the ancient monuments. It talks about the Reign of Akhenaten, the Great Flood, The Polar Shift etc. It contains a sci-fi element by talking about time travel and remote viewing. However, in some parts the language is a bit different which makes it difficult to understand. Also, this book is lacking in its romance aspect which can be a bit disappointing as there were parts where the characters were led on but nothing happened.
People who like historical mysteries will really like this. It also includes the history of many ancient sites and caves and controversies regarding them. It’s a bit like ‘Journey to the Center of the World. So, people who like stories like those should definitely give this one a read.
