Shadow Game by A.M. Adair is a novel that falls under the category of thriller and suspense. The novel is fiction based, however the author uses her own personal experiences to create an exciting and intense story. With 19 chapters spread out over 284 pages, we get to know few characters, with the main being Elle Anderson, and her story that could lead to death or survival.

Elle Anderson works for the CIA and is called overseas to Iraq to take down a very lethal terrorist group called Daesh. Emotions aside, Elle must instruct her team to make decisions that are not for the faint of heart. Fast paced, Elle must overcome obstacles that she hopes will lead to a positive future. She is trained to be deadly and is good at it. However, with her emotions turned off for missions, and the need to do everything herself, she may have pushed her team too far.

Because of Elle's experiences, turning off emotions during missions and numbering targets makes completing missions easier to process for her. However, this does make Elle have a wall up at all times. Can that wall be broken down by someone? There may be a love interest in there somewhere, or maybe two. I'm excited to find out in the authors next novel.

Because of the suspense story line, the love interests, and the action I rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars. The reason I did not give it 4 stars is because there were a few spelling errors early on in the novel. They were minor, so it never confused me with what I was reading, but were still there. Another reason I did not give it 4 stars is because of the cliffhanger at the end. That is what I disliked most from the novel. I wanted to finish the story because I was consumed in it. With that said, I was not fully satisfied with the ending.

However, I loved this novel. From the beginning, it was fast paced. We did not learn of the characters back stories right away, it all happened over time. The mission started right away and I was ready to jump in. I also loved that Elle was a woman who could take control of the situation and fight to the death, and win. Her determination to complete a job astonished me. What I liked most about this novel is how descriptive the author was. I was able to picture everything in my mind so vividly.

I would suggest Shadow Game for mature adults only. There was frequent profanity as well as multiple descriptions of death. With one somewhat erotic description and one very troubling rape description, this novel would not be suitable for young children.

Shadow Game was a great novel and it excites me to read the next one.
