Fred G. Baker's Desert Sanctuary revolves around an admirable and reputable Detective popularly known as Lori Sanchez. She is accused of a crime that is related to a drug transaction she was supposed to takedown alongside other detectives but she claims that she is being framed. However, shortly after this claim, evidence that proved this accusation to be true and not unfounded surfaced. This accusation goes on to take a toll on her career and reputation. Lori Sanchez takes calculated and risky steps to prove that she is in fact not guilty of the purported crime and she does this by utilising her resources and time. One begins to wonder who to believe or even root for, Lori Sanchez or her accusers? Just like every journey and adventure, Lori Sanchez encounters setbacks which occasionally got her frustrated. Was she able to clear her name?

Lori Sanchez did not go on this journey of unveiling alone, she had friends who believed she was innocent and who gave her their unwavering support and trust, one of which is the lovable and selfless Father Gulliermo Montero who is known for preparing mouth-watering dishes, Detective Bourdou and the ever stunning Alvera Clara who is the Assistant District Attorney.

The book is an intriguing crime thriller story which is full of conspiracies, suspense, and twists. Desert Sanctuary is not merely intriguing, it elicited in me a kind of adrenaline rush. Its twists struck me as mind-blowing. The sense of description employed by the author is topnotch and it made the book realistic. One begins to find oneself not just engrossed in the book but literally living in the book. I find the book slightly humorous and slightly sad. While reading the book, I grinned occasionally and became tensed at different points. I believe humour was employed to reduce the almost constant tension.

It was quite difficult for me to determine what part of the book appealed to me most, considering the fact that I found all of it fascinating, honestly. One of which was the point where Lori Sanchez was mounting cameras in McShane's house, a guy whom she suspected. I loved the accuracy and flawlessness at which she did that and I kept on wishing that she won't be caught. The highest of it all was the fact that Lori Sanchez's accusers did not know what she was cooking for them.

The choice of words employed by Fred G. Baker was easy to understand yet sophisticated. A few vulgar words were employed and which were mostly a repetition of itself.

The book was professionally edited. I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because of its realistic, relatable, and engaging nature.
Fred G. Baker's Desert Sanctuary is so engaging and captivating that I read it for less than 3 days, despite my tight schedule. It will definitely appeal to lovers of captivating books and crime thrillers and I recommend it to them.

I have just begun this book and I think it's quite promising. Thanks for the review. I have my doubts when I started it, but it has been nice so far. As you mentioned, it is easy to read, yet it catches you. I still have some doubts about the portrayal of immigrants throughout the book, but I will definitely give it a shot till the end. Thanks again for your review.
