The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare, the 4th in the Inspector Sheehan Mysteries series, is a page-turning, enthralling mystery novel that is sure to keep readers on the edge of their seats. This book is no doubt one of the best books I have read in a long time. I am a huge fan of murder mystery books like this one, and I cannot wait to read some of the other books in the Inspector Sheehan Mysteries series.

The murders take place in Northern Ireland, where Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team respond to the scene of a gruesome murder. The victim is none other than a notorious judge, known for his harsh sentences. Three more murders, identical to the first, occur and with no seeming connection between the victims, the detectives on the case are left to scour for clues. It is not until Sergeant Stewart finds some disturbing information on the Dark Web that the police begin to piece together the puzzle.

The Dark Web is the underbelly of the internet and is where Stewart finds the blog detailing every murder and seemingly attempting to justify them either to him/herself or to his/her “followers”. The book follows the team as they attempt to navigate through the Judge’s messy personal life and are left reeling when they discover “The Club”. The Club is a group of highly influential people involved in some very questionable activities. This causes the police to have many suspects, and takes up most of their time, but is it the right path?

This book reminds me of some of my favorite shows, such as NCIS and Criminal Minds. To catch the killer, they must figure out how the victims fit together, why the killer has killed them, and who the next victim is. I enjoyed how O’Hare included a lot of detail about police procedures and the train of thought that the detectives had. He excelled at introducing the entire team and making it so that they all worked as a team on the case, instead of just focusing on Chief Inspector Sheehan. O’Hare went to great lengths to include a list of characters, acronyms, and more at the beginning of the book if you did not get a chance to read the first 3 books, which I thought was both very considerate and helpful.

I cannot think of a single thing about this book that I did not like. I thoroughly enjoyed the thoroughness of the details in the book. O’Hare described each character in such a way that I could imagine them standing in front of me and it was like I was there. He also did the same with the imagery of the locations, and it aided in absorbing the reader into the book and not wanting to put it down.

I rate The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare 4 out of 4 stars. It has all the components of an excellent murder mystery novel. It had suspense, character development, and an engaging plot. There are heavier topics covered, such as rape, suggestive sexual content, and murder. There is also the near-explicit language used in the book, so if any of these bothers or offends you, I would probably suggest not reading this book. However, if you can overlook these issues, and are looking for a good murder mystery novel, then this is the book for you.
