Eastwind: 2nd Edition by Jack Winnick starts with a nuclear explosion in Los Angeles. If that doesn't get your attention, nothing will. Winnick then introduces the main characters; Uri Levin, a special unit operator of Israels' Mossad, and Lara Edmond, an FBI intelligence analyst specializing in electronic terrorism. Backtrack six months before the nuclear detonation; Uri and Lara are brought together as a joint task-force to find sleeper cells intent on crippling the U.S. by any means necessary. Utilizing billions of dollars in computer programs and software, they are able to analyze millions of emails world-wide daily.

After working over five months together, they were getting closer to apprehending several cells. Their analysis indicates that weapons-grade uranium for bomb making has been bought and is probably in the U.S. already in the hands of the cells. In walks the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), wanting to take over all the work done by Uri and Lara. A compromise is reached, with parties agreeing to share the workload, and the groups part ways. DHS will be looking at college students in Ivy League universities who are taking classes in nuclear and chemical engineering; and the FBI will be tracking the sleeper cells emails.

DHS inadvertently tipped off the terrorists while investigating the schools which led to the detonation of the bomb in Los Angeles. Now it is a race for Uri and Lara to uncover the next bombs' location before millions of innocents are injured and killed.

Very few profanities were seen and those that occurred added to the story and the drama taking place. A few errors in spacing was all that was noticed. I rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars. I appreciated Winnick's explanation on the difference of those in political appointments who believe in their entitlement, versus those in government who work and earn their rank in the service of our country. I liked the authors description of the different international agencies and their purpose. Also, the description of nuclear fission was easy to understand; which is extremely hard for most people to do. I gleaned quite a bit of information and understanding on subjects I knew nothing about, and is always a plus when reading any novel.

People who enjoy reading Dale Brown, Web Griffin and Tom Clancy will appreciate this story and the characters within. Winnick brings to life the covert work of the FBI analysts, and the methods of those opposing our way of life who seek to destroy or maim us. I look forward to the ongoing adventure of Uri and Lara in the upcoming books.
