The Best People: A Tale of Trials and Errors by Marc Grossberg is a great read with an engaging storyline. One of the great things about an author who writes a novel in the field that they are trained in is even though the storyline can be exciting and captivating, it never feels unrealistic. Marc Grossberg has managed to execute this perfectly in his first novel. I feel that Marc could definitely be the next John Grisham if the rest of his books are written as good as this one. Studying and working in law, I have a love for reading fiction and non-fiction work based on the law field, I will definitely be reading Marc Grossberg's next book whenever that may come out.

The story is about a former cop turned lawyer Paddy Moran, who was keen to make a name for himself by taking on the underdog against the big guys. Starting off sharing an office with another former policeman turned lawyer, Paddy took on whatever work came in dealing in divorces and insurance claims usually involving former cops. After his first real court case representing a shady deputy, Paddy thought he learned his lesson in where to draw the line when crossing into those grey areas of law but, as Paddy becomes more well known and is accepted by the upper class society of Houston,Texas, that line became very fuzzy. The better the case and the bigger the money brings Paddy the feeling of wanting more and wondering how far he can push his own boundaries.

The book brings in storylines of other characters who intertwine in Paddy's life in one way or another. Grossberg does this well by adding enough characters to give a strong storyline to each, but not too many that it is confusing and that you are constantly trying to keep track of who the characters are.

What I liked most about the book was all the characters storylines intertwining and getting to know each character properly. I also really enjoyed the story of Paddy coming up in the world as lawyer. What I disliked most about the book was actually not to do with Paddy, it was the later stages of the relationship between VJ and Pilar. I feel VJ was very self-righteous and that he couldn't be at fault within the relationship.

I give the book 4 out of 4 stars . It is well written, has a great story and is definitely a page turner. I feel all age groups from about 15 years old up will enjoy this book, particularly people who enjoy reading John Grisham or have an interest in law.
