East Wind by Jack Winnick is a political thriller that deals with a terrorist plot involving homemade nuclear devices and major US cities. The agencies entrusted to keep America safe have to work together to foil this plot. Enter Lara, a computer genius with the FBI and Uri a Mossad agent, who has knowledge of the terrorist organization that the different agencies are tracking. Using these specific skills, can Lara and Uri stop the plot in time?

This was a fun, fast paced novel. While there were not many plot twists, this still had enough action to keep the reader on their toes and want to keep going. This would be great for a vacation read or for just an uncomplicated reading experience that is still action packed. This does not mean that this is a boring book! This book would be recommended for readers who like James Patterson or Tom Clancy.

The one complaint that I have about the book speaks more to the culture of the agencies that Winnick is writing about than his actual writing. Lara is the one major female character in the book and she is still sidelined for most of the action. She is not respected in meetings, she is objectified by Uri and she still has to be saved in the last major conflict. Even though she states numerous times that she has FBI field skills training, Lara does not come across as a strong female character.

This was a very well edited manuscript. I did not come across any spelling or grammatical mistakes. For the most part, readers of most religions would be able to read this book without any offense taken. Members of extreme Islamic religions would be offended if they were to read this book, but they are not the intended audience. The sex scenes are small and tastefully done. They are not gratuitous at all.

In the end, I would give East Wind by Jack Winnick a 4 out of 4 stars. This book was extremely well edited. The plot was well structured and moved quickly. While the book did not demand much from the reader in terms of huge logical leaps, sometimes as a reader you are not looking for that type of read, you just want a light read that keeps your interest. This book delivers exactly that. If you are looking for a great, tense book that is high on action, this is the book for you.

I agree I didn't find much character in Lara. She's supposed to be this ace computer scientist, but it didn't feel like that. I think we found the most personality from her while she's talking to Uri, and even then she bored me.
