Kelly and Tom Turbulo find themselves in the middle of a terrorist plot while they are staying at the Barefoot Sands Resort in West Bay, Honduras on their honeymoon. They encounter shady foreign characters and race against time to stop an electro-magnetic pulse that could shut down all electrical and computer activity in the United States!

Who needs a boring romantic honeymoon when you can have adventure and international intrigue? Dorothy May Mercer's book EMP Honeymoon starts out with action and never stops. "Kelly the curious" stumbles upon a room full of mysterious computer monitors and maps, and barely escapes a group of armed men led by a beautiful woman. Kelly and her new husband Tom, with CIA agent Steve and Senate investigators Sharon and Agatha, form an impromptu team who, together, attempt to decipher clues and stop the group of operatives from a country called simply "Homeland" before they are able to complete their mission to launch a rocket--fitted with a satellite--armed with a nuclear warhead.

Back in the United States, will anyone take the possibility of an EMP strike seriously? Does anyone know what "EMP" means? Do the people of the Homeland realize their leader's folly, naivete, and misinformation, or does the whole country, including top aide General Lee, respect and support their dictator?

Yet, though quite a page-turner, you don't need to be a "rocket scientist" to understand it. It's written in a light-hearted way, with some tongue-in-cheek humor. The characters are fairly one-dimensional; at times perhaps a little too bumbling and inept. There is no confusing technical jargon, racism, or vulgarity, but in the end a few things are left unresolved. Over-all enjoyable, this is what I would all a "dollar store novel": a great book to read while vacationing or just relaxing, which doesn't require deep thought.

Dorothy May Mercer has authored many books in several genres from Romance to Mystery to Science Fiction. She has a collection of non-fiction manuals for the aspiring writer to help guide them on their journey, such as How To Self Edit, and How To Market Your Book. I applaud Ms. Mercer's endeavor to limit typos and grammatical mistakes; I applaud also the complete absence of profanity in EMP Honeymoon! I rate this book 3 out of 4.
