The book East Wind by Jack Winnick is about a religious driven terrorist group called Hezbollah that tries to make its demands to the USA met by threatening to blow up innocent people every week until America complies to the group's wishes. It takes them many years to carefully plan out every move to make their terrorist acts, including brainwashing young Middle Eastern boys to think that they will be greatly rewarded in paradise if they help bring Islam upon the entire world and even greater if they are "martyred" for Allah's sake. One young Pakistani falls prey to this evil game and helps set off a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles that kills thousands of innocent people. Lara Edmond, an FBI agent and a computer whiz and Uri Levin, a Mossad field agent are called to help locate and stop the next bombings before many more innocent people die.

Although this book is fiction, it is based off of non-fiction historical events. I really liked that, even though this book portrays the horror of radical Islam, the author shows that, really, many Middle Eastern young people are simply brainwashed in hatred toward America and the Jews. While reading the book, I sensed the sympathy that the author felt toward all those young Arabs that have been lied to all their lives. In doing so, Jack Winnick reveals to his readers the true problem of the Middle East and I especially appreciate that he quotes Golda Meir when she says, "We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate ours." I also enjoyed the thriller, suspense and romance in this book. After the first chapters went back and forth between different time periods and places introducing all the major characters into the book, the suspense began to grow with every chapter and at this point I just couldn't put the book down. There is just the right amount of romance as well that didn't go over-board and kept it very sweet. With that being said, there was nothing that I didn't like about the book.

I give this book a 4 out of 4. If I could, I would give this book an even higher rating because this subject especially touched me and I loved the way the author explained the truth of today's reality through fictional characters and fictional events.

I highly recommended this book to everyone (adults) because I feel that everyone needs to understand the real issue that we have going on today and the war on terror. In my opinion, this book would also make a great movie.

Reading the book was an enjoyment and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. This book was professionally edited. Also, there is some foul language and a sexual scene. Overall, everything is well balanced with just the right amount of spice, excitement and suspense.

Oh that quote is really good! I also like that this author seems to take a respectful approach to the topic instead of just hating people. Thank you for the review!

Thanks for this review! After really enjoying today's Book of the Day by this same author (Book 4 in this series) I really want to go back and read it in order. Is this Book 1 of the series, do you know? I liked your description and definitely want to read this one now. Thanks for your review. I enjoyed it. :)

I've read good things about this series. I was a bit apprehensive because of the recent social issues it tackles, especially terrorism and religion. But I might give it a try. Thanks for the review!

Excellent review! It was interesting to see how the leaders of Hezbollah recruited and indoctrinated young men to their cause. The Jihadists inspired a strong sense of purpose in the boys. Interesting study in psychology!
