Review by Rosie722 -- E-M-P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer
Fast paced! I just read E-M-P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer and I would say the best part of this book is the pace of the plot. Right from the beginning Kelly in on the run after stumbling into what she believes is a terrorist group operating in the back room of a gift shop while on her honeymoon. Honestly, I think this is what might hook you from the start. That relatable unknown while in a foreign country and straying a little too far from your tourist group even if just to check out an interesting shop. The fact that Kelly is a cop and able to think on her feet, keep calm and get away sets the story up for the adventure and mystery that soon unfold.
Soon Kelly's brother, a U.S. senator makes calls and gets the CIA involved. His secretary sends down "civilians" that clearly have more background knowledge and skills than the average civilian and before long a whole team is in place to investigate what could possibly be going on. The team is funny in their dealings with one another. With the back and forth between the terrorists and the U.S. team as well as those in Washington, you're not sure of the outcome until the very end.
In E-M-P Honeymoon we meet several characters both major and minor. Dorothy May Mercer tells the story not from one or two points of view but from every character's point of view. She puts you in the mind of each and every one of them. This helps to understand the bigger picture and I think without it the reader would be lost.
The part I liked least about E-M-P Honeymoon had more to do with the description or category in which I found the book. This book was listed as a romance novel and to me it just wasn't. On the cover it shows Kelly and Tom's names but really after the first part of the book they don't seem like the main characters any longer. In a romance I expect their to be some romance and there just wasn't. No one fell in love and main characters were totally focused on finding and stopping the terrorists.
I would still rate this story a 3 out of 4 stars . I think this is a book that many readers would enjoy. I found it fast paced and entertaining. It's a quick read that keeps you engaged and guessing the whole time. If fact at points in the story I thought Tom might be involved with the terrorist as he would disappear and keep his thoughts to himself from time to time. Read E-M-P Honeymoon and see for yourself who will come out on top.
