Review by gschauer -- E-M-P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer
Kelly and Tom Turbulo, newly married, were on a wonderfully planned honeymoon in Honduras. Kelly decided to take a bus tour and shop for souvenirs, while Tom went on a diving expedition. During the bus tour, Kelly stumbled into a shop that was a front for a terrorist lab. After being discovered, Kelly was almost killed. She just barely got away, losing her backpack in the process.
From there, things get even more intense as Kelly’s new husband, a Carson City Police from New Mexico, and Kelly’s brother Mike McBride, a US Senator, get involved. Mike McBride gets his office involved by sending a crew to Honduras to protect his sister. American CIA agent Steve Spaulding is also on the job. Soon Kelly and Tom are working with many other characters in the story to stop the terrorists and save the USA. The more they learn about the sinister plot of the terrorists, the more they realize the terrorists must be stopped before they blow up a huge section of the United States.
On the terrorist side, Dear Leader and General Lee, from Homeland Peninsula, operationalize their plan to launch a ballistic missile. Colonel Rhee Su-Jin is in charge of a crew that prepares the missile and ensures everything is ready to go once the signal is given to launch. To hide her identity from others, Su-Jin poises as a tourist, Mrs. Sue Lynn Reese. Su-Jin is an interesting character, a young commander, one of a few that are allowed outside the Homeland country. She is educated and trained in the Homeland army and excelled in secret missions. With her background, Su-Jin has a hard time understanding how to act like a tourist. She finds it hard to just lay around on the beach all day and to visit with other overly friendly tourists, but is energized when working on the missile undercover.
The plot thickens and keeps readers on the edge of their seats wondering how it will all end. The author does a wonderful job describing all the characters and tying in all the action. There are times that the USA characters are not sure who the allies are and who the enemies are. Each scene change is easy to follow and understand.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author was very knowledgeable about EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) as well as all the agencies that come together in situations like this. She also included moments of romance and humor throughout making it an enjoyable read. There are just a couple of suggestive phrases, but nothing lewd or distasteful. This would be an appropriate book for teenagers or adults. I rated this book 3 stars out of 4. The only reason I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars is because of several typos and grammar errors.
