Review by Beatus -- East Wind, 2nd edition by Jack Winnick
East Wind by Jack Winnick is a book about terrorism and the politics behind it. Uri Levin (41) is an expert in the field of terrorism working with the top-secret outfit of the Mossad, the Metsada. His tasks include kidnapping and even killing suspected terrorist leaders and foiling their plans. Evidence collected from one of his missions revealed an ongoing plan to attack the US. Uri and Lara Edmond (31), a computer genius FBI agent, have to work together to stop the terrorists' plans.
A religious leader and a top Hezbollah operative, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, influences a young boy, Walid Jahangiri, to become an extremist. After Walid has graduated with a Master's Degree in Computer Sciences, he is summoned to carry out a terrorist attack in the US. Having been educated in the US, Walid's exposure to another side of the West's culture, called for a very intriguing espionage thriller. Will Walid carry out the attack? Will Uri and Lara, the protagonists, succeed in their efforts to protect innocent people?
The author did an outstanding job with the characters. He developed them so well and intricately fit them into their roles so perfectly. Their backgrounds and the way they think and perceive their situations is a work of art I might say. The action-packed, fast-paced narration is a bonus that did not let me blink. I love action, and the terrorist nature of the book just made me love the book even more. The author's choice of words resonated with the sensitivity of the situations and gave weight to what was at stake, the lives of so many innocent people.
The way the author used the characters' points of view gave a three-dimensional view of the personalities of the characters as well as the plot. It is usually challenging to keep tabs on what is the essential item in each character's mind. However, the author managed an exceptional delivery of this to the minutest detail. It really bolstered the personalities of the characters and made the situations so real. Readers will enjoy the twist and turns and won't get tired quickly as the plot unfolds slowly and gradually to an exploding climax.
I do not have any regrets or second thoughts for picking this book. It has been edited very well and arranged in a way that any enthusiast of an action thriller revolving around terrorism, treason, and a bit of romance would love. Readers who are upset with blood and violent acts should stay away from this book. I rate East Wind by Jack Winnick 4 out of 4 stars.
