The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare
Captivating and suspense filled, in the crime novel The Dark Web Murders by Brian O'Hare a team of detectives must uncover the truth behind a series of horrendous murders that occur in Britain, but the killer is smarter than they anticipate, staying one step ahead while the detectives focus on other suspects. As the murderer posts blogs about his killings in grim details the team get closer and closer to discovering who the murderer is, though it turns out to be someone no one expects.
This crime novel proved to be a pleasing read, well written with slight comedic elements within the characters accompanied by the twists and turns despite how gory some details might have been. The story line remained solid and tied up all loose ends, leaving no question unanswered. Points within the book left me utterly shocked, gaping open mouthed at pages and words, shocked by the plot twists thrown in, the most shocking of them all being the big reveal of the murderer. This reveal was carried out with perfection and left the audience completely unsuspecting. In an effort to tie the story together before actually completing the novel, I had been completely thrown off course, suspecting someone else to be the murderer. This might have been the intent of the author and if so, job well done.
I will admit that due to the British language, mannerisms and gestures, I was not able to follow the story straight throughout, even though I wasn’t thrown too far off. As someone familiar with more American novels, it was a bit of a task to not delve into those writing styles and being thrown off by the differences in that of the British, unsure of which tones were being implemented in certain areas of the novel. However, this did not pose a great issue as I was still able to complete the book with full understanding. It was also severely appreciated that the author mentioned the setting beforehand, in anticipation of readers worldwide.
This crime novel is better suited towards those who have a strong like for mysteries, crime, those who also have strong stomachs and aren’t easily turned by unfortunate or despairing events. It most definitely is not suitable for those under the age of 16 years, due to expletive language as well as perverted and unsettling content.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for its element of surprise and suspense, its well written and well thought out plot and very little grammatical errors. This book is a very good read and is bound to keep you on your toes.
