I definately give Twisted But True 4 out of 4 stars. Darren Burch, the now retired officer who so beautifully wrote this book captured my attention so well that I wasnt able to put it down until it was over. Once it was over I was bummed out that it was through. I enjoyed how it always felt as though you are right there, witnessing the transformation of this young man who is able to find humor in stressful situations as he retells these short stories.

Its always clear that Mr. Burch is one of the finest examples of a true American hero. This man, this fine police officer, went through so much pain and tragedy yet continued to give himself to his community and thus to his country. You later read all the twists and turns his career path takes him on, all further proving his heroic nature.

I am a short story lover in general. I also prefer reading true stories. This book not only gave me the best of both of these things, it seemed very well laid out to where it all goes together to allow the reader to follow Officer Burch's career and life in a perfect flow.

Rarely do I find a book that reads through as intensely as I felt this one read through. I literally found myself not wanting to put it down and when I had to break away from Twisted But True, I simply couldn't wait to get back to reading it. The author did a great job being able to let us experience his experiences on the job, the best and worst of them. Many times throughout this book I found myself laughing and crying all within the same chapter or short story. In my experience it's rare to find someone who is able to be such a great police officer and also turn out to be such a wonderful author.

I definitely think this book would appeal to anyone who loves true crime stories, or true stories, also if you love short stories you'll love this book. There is a small amount of profanity in this book yet the author is very respectful. I definitely would not rule it out because of profanity, there's only a few instances. If you absolutely do not like cops, you may not like this book. No matter who you are I strongly recommend that you read it because it might change your perspective on some of the things they go through in thier day to day as police men and woman. I definitely was blown away by the patience this man has to have, given the way he's able to handle so many of the criminals he dealt with, he virtually has to have the patience of a saint.

I was surprised by how well written the book was, again considering this was a good police officer, usually people aren't that great at so many things, but I really didn't find mistakes in the book. If anyting I had to reread some of the fight type scenes so that I could understand exactly what was going on. However I would not change anything about the book even when it came to the fight scenes that was more about me trying to make sure I was keeping up with what he was saying. Overall it's a very easy read, and totally enjoyable. This book is incredibly well written.
